Located on Merrimack Street in Methuen, Jocelyn’s by Sevmar represents the transformation of a former neighborhood breakfast restaurant into one of the Merrimack Valley’s newest upscale dining destinations. Tasked with reimagining the former Savastano’s Restaurant, RWH Architect worked closely with the ownership team to create a modern hospitality environment centered around elevated dining, handcrafted cocktails, and an unforgettable customer experience.

One of the primary design challenges was overcoming the limitations of the existing layout while working within an accelerated project timeline leading up to the restaurant’s grand opening. The original restaurant reflected a traditional New England breakfast setting that lacked the energy, functionality, and visual identity needed to support the owners’ contemporary vision. The goal was not only to modernize the space aesthetically, but also to maximize every square foot to improve customer flow, seating flexibility, and operational efficiency.

To achieve this transformation, the interior was completely gutted and strategically redesigned from the ground up. The new layout places a dramatic custom bar at the forefront of the guest experience, creating an immediate focal point as visitors enter the restaurant. Designed with seating for twelve, the bar anchors the space while helping establish a vibrant and social atmosphere.

Throughout the dining area, RWH Architect carefully balanced functionality with atmosphere by incorporating a mix of large communal tables for groups and families alongside smaller, more intimate seating arrangements. This approach allowed the restaurant to accommodate a variety of dining experiences while maintaining an open and cohesive layout.

The interior design embraces bold hospitality-driven aesthetics through the use of statement walls, layered textures, patterned finishes, and custom window decals that reinforce the restaurant’s unique identity. Every design element was selected to complement the owners’ upscale and contemporary brand while creating a memorable visual experience for guests.

Despite the aggressive construction schedule, close coordination between the design team, ownership group, and contractors helped keep the project moving efficiently from demolition through completion. The finished space successfully transformed an outdated restaurant into a sleek, modern dining destination that reflects both the operational needs of the business and the atmosphere envisioned by the client.

Today, Jocelyn’s by Sevmar stands as a standout example of thoughtful restaurant architecture and hospitality design in the Merrimack Valley, showcasing how strategic planning, creative problem-solving, and strong collaboration can completely redefine an existing commercial space.
